General Information
The Department of Business Administration was founded in 1957 as part of the Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences (FEAS). The Department of Business Administration moved to a new building (FEAS-B) along with the Department of International Relations in 2000 after sharing the original building with the other three departments of FEAS for many years. The construction, digital infrastructure and furnishing of the building were financed for the most part through the donations of the Department alumni in senior management positions, such as the CEO of one of Turkey's largest commercial banks.
The building design provides students with technologically up-to-date classrooms and laboratories, as well as a variety of study areas throughout the building to facilitate individual and teamwork. Crescent-style classrooms accommodate small (60 students) to large (250 students) class sizes and are also used to host meetings and conferences ranging from international academic meetings to diplomatic mission conferences.
To date, the department has produced over 6,000 graduates. METU BA graduates become executives who hold prominent positions in top international organizations and companies worldwide. Some graduates go into academia where, as faculty members, they facilitate learning in leading universities in Turkey and around the world. Currently, the Department of Business Administration has more than 600 undergraduate and 100 graduate students enrolled in its undergraduate, minor, master's, and Ph.D. programs. The goal of the programs of study is to prepare students towards building successful careers in the fields of finance, organization theory and behavior, marketing, operations, accounting, information systems, and strategic management.
The METU campus is a place where cross-cultural and cross-discipline interactions and learning are valued. The Department of Business Administration hosts students from around the world through Erasmus and Mevlana programs and from other departments of the University in its minor programs. The students of the department are also very active in these international exchange programs as well as in minor and dual diploma programs offered by METU. Furthermore, the department offers a dual degree undergraduate program with a US partner, the State University of New York (SUNY) at Binghamton, an AACSB accredited institution. METU BA is also the home for one of the most active student organizations on campus, the METU Business Club.
The Department of Business Administration attracts top ranking students who rank in the highest 0.1% among 2.5 million applicants in the centralized university placement exams each year. In addition, students admitted to the BA undergraduate program have higher rankings in this exam compared to students admitted to the other social science undergraduate programs of METU. Due to the high caliber of its students, the Department hosts many of the top national and international company recruiting events for competitions, internships, and employment. Business leaders from leading multinational and Turkish corporations work together with METU BA students in class presentations, product development and problem solving competitions, and career development presentations. The fact that METU BA graduates are in leadership positions of numerous organizations nationally and internationally creates a climate of dynamic interaction between the students and industry professionals. More than half of the graduating students sign their first job contracts before they actually graduate in June.
