Eminegül Karababa
Eminegül Karababa is a Professor of Marketing at the Department of Business Administration. Before joining METU, she taught at the University of Exeter and Southern Denmark. Her research aims to understand the formation and transformation processes of markets, consumer cultures, and consumer subjectivities from historical, social, and cultural perspectives. Specifically, she has expertise in early modern non-western historical development processes of markets and consumer cultures and uses historical research methods in consumer research and marketing. She is interested in the value-creation processes in consumption, markets, and commodity networks. Eminegül is currently working on consumption patterns in the hyperinflationary context, consumption of light and lighting in the home environment, and moral justifications for food waste and consumption of green spaces. She served as the Editor-in-Chief for the Journal of Historical Research in Marketing between 2018 and 2022. She sits on the Editorial Advisory Boards and Editorial Board of several academic journals such as Marketing Theory, Journal of Historical Research in Marketing, and Italian Journal of Marketing. Eminegül earned two BAP grants from METU and served as a researcher in internationally funded research grants such as the EPSRC grant – CHOCALM Project (2012), EU Horizon Grant – Nature for Cities Project (2021), and British Council Grant (Partnership of Middle East Technical University and University of Worchester) (2023). Eminegül's research has been published in journals such as Economic History Review, Journal of Consumer Research, Marketing Theory, Consumption Markets and Culture, Journal of Marketing Management and Journal of Historical Research in Marketing.
