METU Business Administration Department Vision Statement

METU Department of Business Administration (BA) aims to maintain and advance its position as a leading business administration department in Turkey with international recognition that stays abreast of contemporary developments in education and research in order to educate future business leaders, produce high quality research, and assume a pivotal position in societal development.

METU BA Mission Statement

METU BA's mission is to create impact on the advancement of knowledge for the betterment of society through business education and research, with an overall philosophy of continuous improvement.

Towards this goal, the department aims to conduct theoretical and empirical research in management as well as in interdisciplinary areas that combine managerial practice with contemporary issues in related fields. The curriculum of the Department's degree programs incorporates faculty research that is directed towards the changing needs of the business environment and society. In this way, our students will be equipped with the most up-to-date knowledge, skills, and abilities that will enable them to create value and fulfil their responsibilities at various levels in select corporations, state institutions, and universities throughout the world.

In order to achieve this goal, and with increasing importance, we contribute to the international and local accumulation of scientific knowledge, with both practice-oriented and fundamental research, which is not only confined to the area of business administration but also covers a variety of fields with an interdisciplinary perspective.

METU BA members aim to cooperate with the business world and governmental and nongovernmental institutions in Turkey, as well as around the world, through collaborative projects carried out at institutional and individual levels within the fields of our faculty's expertise.

METU Department of Business Administration strictly adheres to the basic principles of the University's core values:

Commitment to Campus Heritage

METUnians are devoted to the cultural heritage of the METU campus and embrace its institutional culture that originated in a relatively self-contained location in a human-grown forest. The campus collects all its units in a spatial continuity and with its deep-rooted history ingrained in social memory, with the impact of its unique architecture, landscape, works of art and events, it offers an opportunity for the internalization of an aesthetic sensation. 

Cooperative Individualism

When expressing their individual opinions and values, students, administrative and academic staff at METU act together irrespective of their titles, positions and units, and exhibit readiness to meet challenges with their liberalistic attitudes.


METUnians make their decisions based on objective data and information, independent of external manipulations and without allowing conflicts of interest; they fulfill their duties with a sense of responsibility in the light of ethical values, scientific criteria and the rule of law.

High Academic Quality

METUnians embrace the environment, which makes it possible for them to follow scientific developments at an international level and to contribute to such developments, and which motivates the desire for learning and research, the conduct of scientific research and education at high standards in a framework of universal ethical principles. The community of students and faculty are selected, again utilizing high standards, as the fundamental constituents of METU's high academic quality.

Informed Self-Confidence

With an awareness of the boundaries of their knowledge, ability and authority, METUnians act boldly and resolutely in fulfilling their responsibilities and solving the issues they encounter, and when necessary, they self-criticize.

Innovativeness and Leadership

METUnians follow and implement novel methods and approaches in technology, education, research and management, and develop unique systems, programs and constructs that will serve as models in line with the needs of the society and universities.

Investigative Approach

METUnians adopt an investigative/critical approach before making a judgment, while accessing information, conducting scientific research, or when social issues are in question, and come to a conclusion by analyzing cases in an objective manner.


Embracing the fact that their success and positions are well-deserved as a natural consequence of their competence and perseverance, METUnians make sure that recruitment and other evaluation processes are conducted on the basis of objective standards and self-efficacy.

Respect for Humanity

While METUnians consider and defend the rights and freedoms of others, they regard diversity as a wealth, oppose any kind of discrimination and exhibit an unbiased, egalitarian approach based on respect towards humanity in all of their relations.

Scientific Freedom

METUnians deem the conduct of scientific research and development, education and training activities without being subject to pressures and influences other than scientific criteria, and the creation of free discussion environments to this end, as the unchangeable conditions of scientific freedom.

Sensitivity to the Natural Environment

METUnians see the forest cultivated on the university's land and the ecological diversity within as a value; they attach importance to its conservation and improvement, and, in general, strive for the creation of sensitivity towards the natural environment and the spread of protectionist tendencies.

Social Responsibility

METUnians are responsive to social problems and develop opinions on solutions to them, conduct social responsibility projects and engage in outreach activities for the widespread internalization of science and the scientific approach by the society.

METU BA's Expected Outcomes and Strategies

The expected outcomes (EOs) as articulated in METU BA's mission can be summarized as follows:

EO1. To sustain (and advance) the Department's reputation for producing graduates of exceptional quality.

Each and every alumnus of the Department contributes value, not only to the METU community, but also to the society in general.

This outcome will be achieved by ensuring that we attract high quality students, provide them with contemporary, high quality education at an international level, and in a suitable, modern learning environment. The quality of degree programs should also be assured by obtaining the AACSB Accreditation.

EO2. To make high quality intellectual contributions across a variety of disciplines relevant to the science of management.

Since management as a scientific discipline has roots in a wide array of technical and social sciences, METU BA aims to make intellectual contributions not only to the science of management but also to other fields that nurture the foundations of this discipline. Coming from different backgrounds of management, economics, and engineering, the members of METU BA faculty are celebrated scholars and prominent figures in their respective fields, recognized by the international scientific community, as measured by the value of their scholarly academic contributions.

EO3. To maintain and improve relationships with the business world, as well as Governmental and Non-Governmental organizations, at National and International levels.

METU BA cherishes its close relationships with the business world, and sees this as one of the principal values that guide the Department's mission-related activities.

In order to keep curricula and its contents relevant, faculty members stay in touch with the business environment through a number of practices, including practice-oriented research, project work and consultancy services to private and public enterprises. The Department's ongoing and improving relationships with METU Teknokent and TÜBİTAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey) in training entrepreneurs, and evaluating and mentoring technological start-ups helps faculty members to stay in touch with the technopreneurship ecosystem. Experiences and insights gathered from such collaborations not only constitute valuable inputs to the teaching/learning of business, but they also present excellent opportunities for faculty and graduate students to conduct distinctive scholarly research.
