Organizations in the Age of AI: Rethinking Management, Work and Competitive Advantage

Kısa Özet

Artificial intelligence is increasingly reshaping how organizations make decisions, coordinate work, collaborate across human and machine capabilities, and pursue competitive advantage. Yet investing in AI technologies does not automatically lead to organizational value. Drawing on empirical research conducted in Türkiye, including work on AI adoption, organizational agility, competitive advantage, and AI maturity, this presentation argues that AI adoption alone is not sufficient for competitive advantage; organizations need to translate AI use into organizational capabilities, agility, innovation, and new ways of working.

This argument also resonates with broader global debates on why many organizations struggle to create value from AI investments. The presentation approaches AI not merely as a technical tool, an IT function, or a set of functional business applications, but as an organizational and managerial phenomenon.

The emergence of AI leadership roles, including Chief AI Officer, signals that AI increasingly requires coordination across strategy, data, ethics, people, work processes, and organizational change. The presentation will also introduce the rationale and design of the proposed elective course "Organizations in the Age of AI," which aims to prepare future managers to understand, question, organize, and lead in AI-enabled organizations.
